Boost that energy!

Ok, so we all need an energy boost now and again, well I actually could do with one every day! us mums work hard masha'Allaah, tending to the kids, cleaning, cooking, studying, blogging (had to get that one in!), shopping, and if you homeschool there's the planning and teaching on top of it all. But we need to keep ourselves going, can't be lying around on the couch all day now can we, especially when we've got kids depending on us, so here's just a small list of some energy boosters which should do the job insha Allaah :

  1. Sleep - Ok, for those who know me and my sleeping habits, are probably cracking up right now, but I'm working on it. Sleep is vital for our brains and body to function properly, and repair itself at the end of a long day. 8 hours sleep per night is recommended, and this can have a huge effect on how you feel the next day, I know myself when I go to bed late, which is quite often, I feel so irritated the next day, snappy, and not very motivated to do anything, I just feel like climbing back into bed! but, when I've made that effort to get to bed earlier, my mood is much better, and I'm more on top of things.

  2. Exercise - another great way to boost your energy supplies, also research has shown that exercise can be a remedy for depression

  3. Water - If we're not drinking enough water, our energy can be zapped, so can our concentration, over 50 percent of our body is made up of water, and we lose it when we sweat or lose urine. So it's highly important we aim to drink at least 6-8 glasses a day.

  4. A good healthy breakfast - Research has shown that if there is a combination of carbohydrates and protein, it will make your energy high last longer, as sugar is slowly and steadily released throughout the morning. Try adding seeds to your cereal, fruit to your yogurt, egg on your toast, honey to your porridge for a long lasting boost.

  5. Walking - Get the kids ready and take a walk to the park, the fresh air will do wonders for your energy.

You are more than likely aware of the top 5 energy boosters, but if you do find yourself feeling sluggish often, non-motivated, then take a look at your lifestyle and see if your leaving out any of the above. Oh and by the way, chocolate and fizzy drinks may give you an instant energy boost, but it doesn't last very long, you just end up feeling the same way after a short while.
